Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information SASSA Status Check Help collects, why we collect it, and the rights you have under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). The short answer: we collect very little, and we never ask for your ID number or bank details.

  • You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you.

Information we collect

Information you give us

When you send a message through our contact form, we receive the name and email address you enter and whatever you write in your message. Please don’t include your ID number, bank details or anything else sensitive. We don’t need them, and we delete messages that contain them.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our hosting provider records technical details when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you open and the time of your visit. These server logs are used to keep the site secure, stop abuse and fix errors. We don’t use them to identify you.

Information we never collect

There is no form on this site that asks for your ID number, cellphone number for a status check, bank account, card PIN or OTP. We don’t check your SASSA status for you, so we never need these details.

How we use your information

  • To read and reply to your message.
  • To fix mistakes you report and improve our guides.
  • To keep the website secure and working properly.
  • To meet any legal duty we have.

We don’t sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we don’t use it to send you marketing.

Cookies and advertising

Cookies are small text files saved in your browser. This site may use a few cookies to remember settings and keep pages loading quickly.

We may show ads served by Google AdSense. Google and other third-party vendors use cookies to show ads based on your earlier visits to this website and other websites. Google’s advertising cookies let it and its partners choose ads for you based on those visits.

  • You can turn off personalised ads in Google Ads Settings.
  • You can opt out of some other vendors’ cookies at aboutads.info.
  • You can read how Google uses data from sites that show its ads in Google’s partner sites policy.
  • You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some parts of the site may not work as well if you do.

Analytics

We don’t currently run a separate analytics tool such as Google Analytics. If we add one, we’ll update this policy first and explain what it collects.

Who we share information with

  • Our hosting provider, which stores the website and its server logs.
  • Our email provider, which delivers contact form messages to us.
  • Google, when ads are shown, as described above.
  • Authorities, only if the law requires it.

Some of these providers may store information on servers outside South Africa. We only use providers that protect personal information to a standard similar to POPIA.

How long we keep it

We keep contact messages for up to 12 months after we’ve dealt with them, then delete them. Server logs are kept by our hosting provider for a short period for security, then removed.

How we protect it

The site uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and access to the website’s admin area is limited and password-protected. No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to prevent loss, misuse or unauthorised access.

Your rights under POPIA

  • Ask whether we hold personal information about you, and get a copy.
  • Ask us to correct information that is wrong or out of date.
  • Ask us to delete your information.
  • Object to us processing your information.
  • Complain to the Information Regulator.

To use any of these rights, send a request through our contact page. We’ll reply within 30 days.
