SASSA moved its November 2026 payment dates earlier because of the local government elections on Wednesday, 4 November. The new SASSA November payment dates are: older persons on Friday, 30 October, disability grants on Monday, 2 November, children’s grants on Tuesday, 3 November, and grants under review on Thursday, 5 November. National Treasury approved the change. Pensioners paid on 30 October are getting their November money early. It isn’t an extra payment.
| Grant | Old date | New date |
|---|---|---|
| Older persons grant (incl. 75+) | Tue 3 Nov | Fri 30 Oct |
| Disability grant | Wed 4 Nov | Mon 2 Nov |
| Children’s grants (child support, foster child, care dependency) | Thu 5 Nov | Tue 3 Nov |
| Grants under review (fourth payment day) | Fri 6 Nov | Thu 5 Nov |

Why the SASSA November payment dates moved
SASSA normally pays grants in the first week of each month. In 2026, that week includes election day on 4 November, which is a public holiday. Paying millions of people at shops, ATMs and pay points on the same days that voting stations open would have meant long queues, crowded shops and more pressure on staff and security.
SASSA revised the timetable after “extensive consultations” with stakeholders, said spokesperson Dr Paseka Letsatsi (EWN, 15 October 2026). The government news agency confirmed that National Treasury approved the new dates and asked beneficiaries not to visit SASSA offices without a reason (SAnews, 15 October 2026).
Warning: some websites still show the old dates
SASSA’s original 2026/27 calendar, published in March, had the SASSA November payment dates on 3, 4 and 5 November, with the review day on 6 November. Several websites and social media posts still show those old dates as “confirmed”. They’re out of date. If you see 3 November for pensioners, ignore it: older persons were paid on 30 October.
Always check dates against SASSA’s own announcements or our SASSA payment dates page, which we update when SASSA changes the calendar.
Pensioners: plan for a long gap until December
Older persons were paid on 30 October, and the December payment is on Wednesday, 2 December. That’s a gap of 33 days, a few days longer than usual. Budget for it:
- Treat the 30 October payment as your November money, not as October extra.
- Buy bulk groceries and electricity early in the month while prices and stock are steady.
- Watch for loan sharks who target pensioners during long gaps. Never hand over your card or PIN as security.
- The money stays in your account until you use it, so you don’t have to withdraw it all on pay day.
To check what’s in your account, see how to check your SASSA card balance. For the current amounts (R2,400 for older persons and R2,420 from age 75), see SASSA grant amounts.
If your grant is under review: 5 November
The fourth payment day is for beneficiaries whose grants are being reviewed, often for a life certificate, an income check or missing documents. In November it falls on Thursday, 5 November, the day after the election. If SASSA has sent you a review notice:
- Respond to the notice and attend any appointment SASSA gives you.
- Take your ID and the documents listed in the notice.
- Don’t ignore it. A grant can be suspended if the review isn’t completed in time.
Our grant review and suspension guide explains why you might be on the fourth payment day and how to get back onto the normal schedule.
SRD R370 payments in November
The election change doesn’t affect the SRD grant. SRD R370 payments aren’t paid in the first week of the month: they’re released later, on rolling dates, after each month’s checks. Check your status for your own pay date. See our SRD payment dates guide and the approved but no pay date guide if your status shows approved with no date yet.
Voting and collecting your grant
| Day | What’s happening |
|---|---|
| Fri 30 Oct | Older persons grants paid |
| Mon 2 Nov | Disability grants paid |
| Tue 3 Nov | Children’s grants paid |
| Wed 4 Nov | Election day and public holiday. Vote, and avoid collecting on this day |
| Thu 5 Nov | Grants under review paid |
You can collect your grant any day after it’s paid, so there’s no need to queue on pay day itself. If you vote on 4 November, take your green barcoded ID book, smart ID card or temporary ID certificate to your voting station.
