SRD Reapplication and Reconfirmation: Do You Need It?

No, most people do not need to reapply for the SRD R370 grant. Your application stays active, and SASSA checks every month whether you still qualify. You only need a new application if your old one was cancelled, if SASSA can’t find an application under your ID, or if SASSA announces that everyone must apply again, which last happened in April 2022. Reconfirming is different: it means checking and updating the details on your existing application, and you only do it when SASSA asks or when your details have changed.

Do you need a SASSA SRD reapplication?

A SASSA SRD reapplication is only needed in a few situations. Find yours in the table:

Your situationReapply?What to do instead
You were paid last month or have approved monthsNoKeep checking your status each month
A month was declinedNoAppeal that month within 90 days
Your status is pendingNoWait. A second application can slow things down
Your phone number or bank account changedNoUpdate the details on your existing application
You cancelled your application and now need the grant againYesSubmit a new application, or reinstate the old one
SASSA cancelled your applicationUsuallyCall SASSA first to find out why, then apply again if told to
The status page says no application was foundYesCheck your ID and number, then apply
SASSA announces that everyone must apply againYesFollow the official announcement only

The reason a new application is rarely needed is simple. SASSA’s own reply to Parliament explains that applications are not rejected at the start. Only your identity is checked when you apply, and the income and database checks then run every month after that (PMG, question NW3195, July 2026). So one application is enough for SASSA to assess you month after month.

SASSA SRD reapplication history: when people had to reapply

Most of the confusion comes from 2022, when everyone really did have to apply again. Since then, SASSA has told existing beneficiaries that they don’t need to.

If SASSA ever does ask everyone to apply again, it will be a national announcement on SASSA’s own channels and in the news, not a WhatsApp forward or a Facebook post with a link.

How to reconfirm your SRD application

Reconfirming keeps your existing application up to date. It’s useful when SASSA sends you an SMS asking you to reconfirm, or when your phone number, bank account or address has changed. These are the usual steps on the official site:

  1. Open srd.sassa.gov.za by typing the address yourself.
  2. Choose the option to confirm or update your application details.
  3. Enter your 13-digit ID number and the cellphone number you applied with.
  4. Request the one-time PIN and type it in when the SMS arrives.
  5. Read through your details: name, contact details, and the payment method and bank account.
  6. Correct anything that is wrong, then submit and keep the confirmation message.

If the PIN goes to a number you no longer have, fix the number first with our guide to changing your SRD cellphone number. To change only the bank account, see updating SRD banking details.

How to reapply if your application was cancelled

If you do need a SASSA SRD reapplication, it is the same as a first application:

  1. Call 0800 60 10 11 first if SASSA cancelled your application, so you know the reason. Applying again without fixing the reason usually leads to the same result.
  2. Go to srd.sassa.gov.za and start a new application with your ID number and a cellphone number registered in your own name.
  3. Answer the questions honestly, especially about income and other grants.
  4. Choose how you want to be paid and enter your own bank details, or pick Cash Send.
  5. Check your status over the next few weeks. Each month gets its own result.

What “reapplication pending” means

Some people still see “reapplication pending” or a similar message on older applications. It appeared mainly after the 2022 rule change, when old applications had to be submitted again. If you see it now, check whether any recent months show a result. If they do, your application is active. If nothing shows for recent months, call SASSA before you submit anything new. Our SRD status meanings guide explains every other message you might see.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Reapplying because a month was declined. A new application doesn’t change that month. Use an SRD appeal instead.
  • Reapplying while pending. Two applications under one ID can cause a duplicate flag and delay both.
  • Following a “reapplication link” from WhatsApp or Facebook. Fake SASSA sites copy the look of the real one. Real addresses end in .gov.za.
  • Paying someone to do a SASSA SRD reapplication for you. It’s free, and handing over your ID and OTP puts your grant at risk.
  • Using a family member’s phone number. The number must be registered in your own name.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to reapply for the SRD grant every month?

No. One application covers every month. SASSA checks each month separately and shows a result for each one on your status.

Do I need to reapply for the R370 grant in 2026?

No. SASSA has not asked existing beneficiaries to reapply in 2026. The grant was extended for another year in October 2026 with no new application announced.

What is the difference between reapplying and reconfirming?

Reapplying means submitting a brand-new application. Reconfirming means checking and updating the details on the application you already have.

Should I reapply if my SRD month was declined?

No. A new application won’t change a declined month. Appeal that month within 90 days instead.

How do I know if my application is still active?

Check your status on srd.sassa.gov.za. If recent months show approved, pending or declined, your application is active.

Can I reapply after cancelling my SRD grant?

Yes. Call SASSA to check whether the old application can be reinstated, or submit a new one on the SRD website.

Is there a fee for a SASSA SRD reapplication?

No. Applying, reapplying and reconfirming are all free on the official SRD website.
