SRD Approved but No Pay Date? What to Do

If your SRD status says approved but shows no pay date, you qualified for that month but SASSA hasn’t scheduled the payment yet. The SRD grant has no fixed pay day: SASSA checks every month again and then gives each approved month its own date, usually in the second half of the month. If a month stays approved with no date for weeks, or the date passes and no money arrives, the cause is usually your banking details, a verification check or a payment the bank sent back.

Why your SASSA status check says approved but no payment date

A SASSA status check approved but no payment date is normal for part of every month. SASSA has explained that the SRD grant has no fixed pay day because every beneficiary is verified again each month, and that pay dates are shown on the system once they are set (SAnews, SASSA statement). So “approved” comes first and the date comes later.

When the date doesn’t come, SASSA has listed these reasons for approved grants that aren’t paid (Cape Argus, September 2025):

  • Wrong banking details: “You may not have provided us with your correct banking details.”
  • Details still being verified: new or changed bank details are waiting to be confirmed.
  • Referred status: the application was sent for extra checks.
  • Identity verification: a face scan or Home Affairs check is still open.
  • Money sent back by the bank: “the bank returned your money due to an anomaly with your account”, for example a closed, dormant or joint account.

How long to wait before you worry

SASSA doesn’t publish a fixed number of days for a SASSA status check approved but no payment situation, so use the calendar as your guide:

How to fix a SASSA status check approved but no payment result

  1. Check every month separately on srd.sassa.gov.za. Note which months show approved, which show a date and which show anything else.
  2. Check your payment method. If you chose a bank account, make sure it’s open, in your own name, not a joint account and FICA’d with your bank.
  3. Fix the bank details if they’re wrong. Our SRD banking details guide explains the update and the verification that follows.
  4. Look for open checks. If SASSA sent you a verification link, complete it. See our identity verification guide.
  5. Make sure your number works. SASSA sends links and Cash Send vouchers to your registered number. If it changed, update your SRD cellphone number.
  6. Call SASSA if nothing changes by the end of the month: 0800 60 10 11. Give your ID number and the months involved, and write down any reference number.

Pay date passed but no money?

  • Bank account: allow two to three working days after the date, then check your statement, not just the app balance.
  • Cash Send: look for the SMS with the voucher number on the phone with your registered number. Without it you can’t collect.
  • Retail collection: wait for the SMS confirming the store and day, then take your ID and the registered phone.
  • Still nothing: ask your bank whether a payment from SASSA was received and returned. Then call SASSA with that answer.

If the bank returned the money, SASSA has said payment is made from the next pay run once your banking details are confirmed and verified.

Will you get paid for months that had no date?

If your SASSA status check approved but no payment message lasted for months, those months are usually picked up once the problem is fixed, and SASSA has said payment follows from the next pay run. We couldn’t find an official promise that every held month is always paid, though, so check each month on your status after the fix. If a month changes to declined, a status check won’t bring it back: you’d need to appeal that month within 90 days.

What not to do

  • Don’t apply again. A second application can create a duplicate and hold up the approved months. Our reapplication guide explains when a new application is actually needed.
  • Don’t change your bank details “just to try”. Every change starts a new verification.
  • Don’t pay anyone to release your payment. Nobody outside SASSA can see or change your file.
  • Don’t trust “new pay date” posters on WhatsApp or Facebook. Your own date only shows on your status.

Frequently asked questions

What does SASSA status check approved but no payment date mean?

You qualified for that month, but SASSA hasn’t scheduled the payment yet. SRD pay dates are set month by month and usually appear in the second half of the month.

How long does it take for a pay date to show after approval?

SASSA doesn’t publish a fixed time. Most months, dates appear later in the same month. If the month ends with no date, contact SASSA.

Why is my SRD approved but not paid for months?

The usual causes are wrong or unverified bank details, a referred or identity check, or a bank that returned the money. Fix the details, then call 0800 60 10 11.

Should I reapply if my SRD is approved with no pay date?

No. Reapplying can create a duplicate application and delay your approved months further.

What if my pay date has passed and I have no money?

Wait two to three working days, check your bank statement or Cash Send SMS, ask your bank if a payment was returned, then call SASSA.

Will I get back pay for approved months?

Payment normally follows from the next pay run once your details are verified. Check every month on your status after the problem is fixed.

Can WhatsApp tell me my SRD pay date?

The official WhatsApp line, 082 046 8553, can answer status questions, but the SRD website shows your pay dates most reliably.
